Teaching the Leaders of Tomorrow: How Arrive Delivers Opportunity Through World-Class Internship and Mentoring Programs

"Arrive summer interns bring great energy as they build meaningful relationships and contribute to real business initiatives while developing a foundational set of sales skills. They are not only potential future employees and leaders, but they also set an example for other students who are interested in working with Arrive."

Internships Have Lasting Value

Internships are vital for college students looking to jump-start their careers.

These opportunities allow individuals to explore potential career paths, develop practical skills, and build their professional network early on, ultimately increasing their chances of landing a lucrative job they love. In fact, according to Zippia, college students with internship experience are 35% more likely to get at least one job offer after graduation than those without it.

Internships can also offer high school students a significant advantage.

Though current statistics show only 4.2% of internships start in high school, employers are beginning to broaden their candidate pools, as 90% agree that these programs can help students get into better colleges. Unlike college internships, high school-level programs tend to focus on general experience and learning rather than developing specific skills to obtain full-time work.

Delivering Opportunity

At Arrive Logistics, we’re proud to provide internship opportunities for high school and college students at our offices nationwide.

This summer,  we invited two groups of talented young people to join our Summer Sales Internship Program and the Code2College Internship Program.  From engaging in one-on-one mentoring and learning how to develop a personal brand to working in the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of logistics, these experiences will help students stand out during the college application process or challenge the status quo in their future careers.

Read on to learn more about the value our internship and mentoring programs delivered for students this year.

Jump Starting Sales Careers: The Arrive Summer Internship Program

Since 2019, the Arrive University Relations team has partnered with over 30 schools to recruit students interested in sales for the Arrive Summer Internship Program.

This year, 50 students from partner universities such as Louisiana State University, Ohio State University, Florida State University, and more, completed internships at Arrive offices in Austin, Chicago, and Tampa.

Following an immersive three week sales-focused training, the interns hit the sales floor alongside their mentor and team. They learn to communicate and problem solve, gain confidence to get on the phone and sell all while providing top customer service to Arrive’s Transportation partners.

Abby Penland, Talent Acquisition Program Manager at Arrive, has led this initiative since August 2021 and has seen its positive impact on students firsthand.

Students also could network with their internship peers and Arrive team members. And in true Arrive fashion, their hard work was rewarded with exciting team outings like attending Austin FC & Chicago Cubs games!

We look forward to expanding this program to include even more students in 2024 and beyond.

Arrive Teams Up With Code2College

In 2022, Arrive joined forces with Code2College, a nonprofit workforce development organization based in Austin, Texas, that supports historically underestimated high school students interested in pursuing STEM degrees and careers.

The program is the first and only one of its kind to break down the structural and economic boundaries these students face by leveraging national partnerships that provide educational development and STEM career exposure through paid internship opportunities.

This year, 11 Code2College students worked with our Software Engineering, Data, and IT teams at Arrive’s Austin headquarters. The students worked directly with stakeholders, contributing to projects like code reviews and adding new features to the ARRIVEnow™ and other internal production systems.

Matt Stephenson, the CEO and Co-Founder of Code2College, says the significance of these internships cannot be overstated.

"High school internships are rare, particularly within the logistics space, but these professional opportunities have the highest economic and academic impact among any similar intervention for students. We're proud to call Arrive Logistics a pioneer in the logistics industry for embracing this alternative career pathway for historically underestimated students in our community."

The future of our partnership with Code2College is bright. Our recently signed nine-year commitment includes ongoing support of the organization’s Texas 2000 Initiative, which aims to place 2,000 high school students in paid technical internships in Texas by 2027.

The Arrive Mentorship Program: Paying it Forward to the Next Generation of Leaders

Mentorship has long been an essential part of our culture and training philosophy. This year, we expanded the program to make mentorship available to RevGen team members across all experience levels, including students enrolled in the Arrive Summer Internship and Code2College programs.

After completing training, participants were paired with a manager and mentor who offered one-on-one support as they worked directly with our transportation partners and strengthened their negotiation, customer service, and relationship-building skills.

Ron Slawek, a Senior Carrier Sales Rep and Mentor at Arrive, had the chance to mentor a sales intern and found tremendous value in the experience.

"I had a wonderful mentor as an intern two years ago, so I jumped at the chance to pay it forward. It was really rewarding to help this individual develop new skills and build confidence throughout the summer, and even more so when he accepted a full-time offer from Arrive at the end of his internship!"

Code2College Mentorship Experience

Code2College interns were paired with a mentor in our Software Engineering, Data, or IT departments, depending on their area of interest. They worked one-on-one with their mentor on purposeful projects designed to deliver true business value while building technical and teamwork skills.

Layla Martin, Director of Data Engineering at Arrive, helped lead the mentorship segment of the program.

"Our partnership with Code2College is a unique opportunity to invest in diversifying the tech industry by empowering ambitious young talent from diverse backgrounds. The summer internships allow high school students to solve real-world problems in a corporate setting, contribute code to a high-performing engineering team, and work with mentors who can impact their future."

As Arrive continues to grow, so will the number of internship opportunities we provide. Learn more about upcoming internships, campus recruiting efforts, and full-time career opportunities here: www. arrivelogistics.com/careers
