Many of our employees learn about Arrive at careers fairs, including Jessica Mitchell, Account Executive on the Operations team. We sat down with Jessica to learn about her experience at Louisiana State University (LSU) and how it led her to her position at Arrive today.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I went to LSU and graduated in spring 2019. I earned my degree in marketing with a concentration in professional sales.
How did you first hear about Arrive?
I first heard about Arrive at our LSU business college career fair. I also found Arrive on LinkedIn and connected with a recruiter. I completed the interview process, accepted my offer and started in June right after I graduated.
How did you become interested in going into operations in the logistics industry?
I chose to major in marketing because it is so broad, and I didn’t want the same job title my entire career. I had an internship in sales and marketing during school, but I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to go from there. Arrive really stood out to me because I felt like it was a great job out of college to explore where I wanted to go in business. I’m also originally from just outside New Orleans, and starting a career in Austin was exciting and intriguing for me.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my role here is communicating with customers and finding out what they like and don’t like, and finding solutions. At the end of the day, I love knowing that my job helps other people get what they need. It’s so rewarding knowing that I’m making someone else’s life easier.
What keeps you at Arrive?
When I first started at Arrive, I loved how this was also the first job out of college for so many others on my team. Everyone I meet is from different backgrounds and has different perspectives and opinions to offer. The team aspect here is also a huge reason I love being here. Knowing that everyone is working together toward the same goal and that I have teammates to lean on is very comforting.
Have any advice for soon-to-be college grads?
If you ever want to pursue a new opportunity, now is the time to do it! I never thought I would end up in Austin. Everyone I grew up with stayed in Louisiana, Your older self will thank you for taking a new opportunity and trying something new. I know that I’m so happy I made the decision to come to Arrive as it’s progressed both my professional and personal growth.
If you could go back in time and tell your college self one thing, what would it be?
Try new things! Visit a new place you’ve never been to and travel more. Looking back, I wish I would have taken advantage of more opportunities.
For someone about to start a career in logistics, what would you tell them?
Keep an open mind. The more open you are to new opportunities, the more you will be able to grow both personally and professionally. Take people’s advice to heart, especially those who are more tenured. Listen and absorb as much as possible. Every day is different, so be sure to keep a positive attitude. Nothing happens overnight. I’ve been with Arrive for almost two years now, and I still learn something new every day.
