Here at Arrive, our employees are our greatest asset. Our team is made up of a variety of talented individuals who consistently strive to push the limits of what’s possible. We sat down with Robert Walter, Marketing Sales Specialist, to learn more about his role on the Marketing team and what he enjoys doing outside of the office.
How did you learn about Arrive and start working here?
I previously worked in the logistics industry and knew a few people who worked at Arrive. A couple of my old coworkers came here and loved it. I saw a Marketing job open up and I was all over it. I had always wanted a marketing role, and I thought it was a great fit because I already had logistics experience. I applied for the role and the rest is history!
What does your daily routine look like?
My day typically starts around 7-7:15 a.m. with a dog in my face, letting me know that it’s time for a walk. Once I’m back home from our daily morning dog walk, I’ll eat breakfast and start getting ready for the day. If I’m working from home, I’ll usually hop on my computer while I’m getting prepped for the day. If I’m coming into the office, I have about a 20-30 minute commute, so I’ll listen to some good music on the way to get myself in the right headspace. I love music – I’m always listening both on the way to and from work and even during the workday. During lunch, I try to completely separate myself from work. Sometimes I’ll take my dogs for a walk or toss on a quick TV show while I eat to enjoy a mid-day decompression. At the end of the day, I’ll typically take my dogs on another walk or to the dog park.
What does an average day in your role look like?
An average day in my role usually consists of both task-oriented work and projects that require more strategic thinking and ideation. I typically try to give myself time slots throughout the day to work on both. I’ll make sure to complete the tasks that need to get done right away, such as putting sales decks together, helping with all-hands slides or assisting with the Arrive newsletter. Then I’ll switch gears to brainstorming and larger thinking for bigger initiatives that are more of a process, rather than task-oriented.
What is your biggest priority on the Marketing team?
My priority on the Marketing team is making sure our sales teams are fully equipped for anything that a shipper or a current prospect asks of them. I consider myself an extension of the sales team and try to be as available to them as possible for whatever they may need. My biggest goal is to do everything I can to make sure they can be successful.
How has your role at Arrive evolved?
When I first started, I didn’t have any professional marketing experience. This was my first ever marketing role. I started out very task-oriented and in the weeds, completing whatever tasks needed to be done. As I’ve become more tenured and experienced, my role has become much more strategic. I’m more involved in larger projects and initiatives that require brainstorming and strategic thinking. My role has definitely evolved from more short-term-oriented work to more long-term-oriented work.
How do you work and interact with the sales teams at Arrive?
When I work with the sales teams, I lean on my industry experience and try to interact with them just as a fellow sales rep would. I don’t want them to feel like they have to change the way they talk and operate for me. I try to get myself to their level of how they like to operate. I also always try to be as available as possible when communicating with sales.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, my girlfriend and I spend a lot of time taking care of our dogs and watching TV. We love watching tons of different types of shows and movies. We have all the streaming services – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max – you name it and we probably have it! I just finished a show called “Alone” on Netflix that follows reality survival experts, it was so good! Along with that, we participate in Camp Gladiator during the week, which is outdoor group exercise classes that are super fun. I also spend a lot of time playing my guitar! I’m not very good, but I have a lot of fun just making noise.
What is your favorite thing about being on the Marketing team?
My favorite part about being on the Arrive Marketing team is working with the other people on my team. Every person on the team is always so helpful and willing to step in when needed. If I ever run into a problem or issue, there is always someone on the team who is able to help out. It’s a really great feeling knowing everyone is always there for one another.
What keeps you at Arrive?
The endless learning opportunities are what keep me here at Arrive. I’m always learning new things and learning from experts. Almost every day I’m learning something new or am doing something I’ve never done before. I’m constantly exposed to new things. Arrive is both a large and new company, so the possibilities for learning and exposing yourself to new opportunities are endless.
